Indian Foothills Park History

Indian Foothills Park was purchased on March 20, 1933. The original deed was for 110 acres. Over the years an additional 215 acres were purchased, including the 80-acre purchase in 1992. Currently, Indian Foothills Park sits on a total of 325 acres.

The park has a variety of facilities. The Marshall Aquatic Center opened in May 2003 and features zero depth entry, diving pool and a 25-foot water slide ending in a safety pool. These features make the Marshall Aquatic Center an enjoyable experience for all ages. Open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day it is also available for private parties. Also found at Indian Foothills Park are six newly renovated tennis courts with lights, eight shelter houses, four public restrooms, four lighted playing fields, Lake Minesa for fishing, Guthrey playground area, an 18-hole golf course, two sand volleyball courts, 12 lighted horseshoe courts, modern 3-D archery range, physical fitness area, an 18-hole disc golf course. Soon new walking trails and the Marshall Skate Park will be completed.

The Henry Peyton Memorial Park was acquired on July 1, 1970 and is located at the corner of Jackson and Conway streets and has a shelter house, restrooms, picnic facilities, basketball courts, a baseball field, and playground equipment.
