The Marshall Parks and Recreation Department welcomes you to our website. The best public park in the Midwest is ready to serve. Our crews have worked hard with general maintenance and up-keep of all our facilities. Marshall has one of the best public 18-hole ready to challenge golfers of all levels. The Aquatic Center has multiple slides, zero-depth entry and a separate diving well. An 18-hole disc golf course had been added along with the Skate Park, which is open every day that weather permits. The landscape and flowers are in full bloom and our shelters are available to rent year round.
The parks are open for comfort, relaxation and family entertainment in a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Activities are planned for all ages and venues. We would love to have volunteers to help with our programs. Help us build a stronger community.
From the Director
As we start a new year, I can’t help but think about our past. I firmly believe that you can’t know where you are going unless you know where you have been.
The Marshall Parks and Recreation Department has a storied past. It all began in 1933. On March 20th on the recommendation of Mayor Joe F. Swisher the City Council approved the purchase of 110 acres from the Ralph and George Duggins for $5,000. The purchase of this land was not looked upon with much favor among the citizens of Marshall, as this land was commonly referred to as “goat hill”. Since this purchase there have been many changes and improvements to our parks. These Leaders had a vision. They knew that for Marshall to be a viable, thriving community that people needed to relax, unwind, and recreate.
The Marshall Parks & Recreation Department is very excited about our program offerings for 2009. You will find the traditional programs along with some new and very diverse offerings.
As we continue to upgrade and improve, the Marshall Parks & Recreation Department is committed to providing the citizens of Marshall with the quality expected. I want to thank you, the voters for your confidence in MPRD with the sales tax extension in February 2008. You will start seeing the use of those tax dollars this spring with the renovations of Travis Guthrey Playground in Indian Foothills Park and the playground in Henry Peyton Park.
I'm extremely proud of our staff, as we continue to provide a comfortable, relaxing, family entertainment in a safe and welcoming environment. Some of which include:
- The “Blooming Flowers” are our signature. We continue to expand and add flower gardens in all areas of the park. The plethora of color is priceless!
- The Archery Range continues to draw worldwide attention with their annual Mo-Jamboree Annual Shoot.
- The MAC (Marshall Aquatic Center) continues to be one of the finest outdoor facilities in the region.
- Indian Foothills Golf Course continues to shine as it is guaranteed the best golfing value in the region.
- The Skate Park is being utilized everyday the weather permits. Many professional skaters have praised our community for providing a quality facility.
- Peyton Park, Shelter Houses, Disc Golf Course, Sand Volleyball Courts, Horseshoe Courts and the Tennis Courts are all very valuable assets and are used regularly.
Thank you for your continued support of the parks. Get out and enjoy all the beauty that surrounds you in the park.
Thanks for visiting,
Jeff Stubblefield
